We are happy to announce that we are starting a club at the aquarium! Gills Club is a STEM-based education initiative dedicated to connecting girls with female scientists from around the world, sharing knowledge and inspiring shark and ocean conservation. The Gills Club harnesses girls’ passion for sharks, nature and the environment by giving them the opportunity to engage in projects focused on making a significant impact on the way sharks are perceived by the public. Our first meeting will be on March 18th at 10 AM.

The Stripped Burr Fish, or Spiny Box Fish (Chilomycterus schoepfi), may look cute and cuddly, but its spines and
beak-like mouth make it a tricky fish to catch. Although it is not commercially valuable, they often get caught accidentally, or wash up on beaches. The Burr Fish is a member of the Porcupine Fish family and puffs up its body by swallowing great amounts of water as a defense mechanism!
Come by to check out our new friend!
Some of you may have seen us setting up the tank for our newest animal and we’re excited to announce she’s finally arrived! Come out this weekend to meet Knubbins!
Diamondback Terrapins live in brackish water and are native to the eastern coast of North America and Bermuda. They’re also the official state reptile of Maryland!
Join us November 18th for a special screening of everyone’s favorite blue tang, Dory. The movie will be accompanied by light refreshments and a brief fact or fiction discussion.
We’re very excited to announce our newest animal attractions!
Remoras are known for catching rides on large animals like sharks and whales, but did you know they use a special suction cup on the top of their heads to hang on?
Sea stars have thousands of tiny tube feet on the bottom of their legs that help them get around!
Little skates range from Nova Scotia to North Carolina and mostly eat small crustaceans and invertebrates that they find in the sand. See if you can spot her in the sand!
Stop by to meet them! Our winter hours will be starting September 24th!
Join us on Sunday, September 18th, to celebrate one year of GEPA! We’ll have crafts, treasure hunts, face-painting, and even birthday cake! Not to mention the unveiling of our brand new watershed model! Costumes are encouraged (seeing as the next day is National Talk Like A Pirate Day).
We’ll be celebrating during our normal business hours, 11:00am – 4:00pm, with normal admission! Stick around till 1:00pm and share some birthday cake!
